Pastoral Gardens is one of my favorite gardening books of the last several years, one that I go back to time and time again.

Many were predicting that it would be a poor year for colorful foliage in New England because of the dry conditions this summer.

There is no denying that, with all its colorful foliage, autumn is a glorious time for photography in New England. However, even though the bright colors of October have faded away, November has become one of my favorite months to get outside with a camera.

This very large Japanese Maple has been gracing the turn in our driveway for at least the past thirty years.

June has already come and gone but it was the peonies this year that made special memories in the garden.  Whether on the plant or as cut flowers, nothing says early summer like peonies.

As far as trees go, there’s not much to dislike about Stewartia pseudocamellia.

It has been brutally cold here in our little corner of New Hampshire this week with a wicked wind chill. Great for making snow, however. Something the slopes are happy to see given the temperature roller coaster we have been riding most of the winter so far.

It is mid November and all of the color will bleed out of the landscape soon and we will have both feet in monochromatic winter.
