Welcome November

There is no denying that, with all its colorful foliage, autumn is a glorious time for photography in New England. However, even though the bright colors of October have faded away, November has become one of my favorite months to get outside with a camera. There is a certain quiet stillness to the landscape. I love all the russet tones of the ferns and grasses and the skeletal remains of the perennials before they completely collapse and go dormant for the winter. I love the mist that hangs over the peaks of the mountains on those crisp November mornings and the somber tones of the evergreens that can make a mountainside appear completely black on a cloudy, grey day. I love how the lakes and streams appear so much deeper and darker as they reflect the light from the winter sky and how their edges slowly begin to turn white as the temperatures drop and a thin coating of ice begins to form. Yes, there is no doubt that November is a good time to huddle by the wood stove with a warm cup of tea but it’s also the month to grab your camera and get outside. The beauty out there is amazing!
