Book Report-Pastoral Gardens

Pastoral Gardens is one of my favorite gardening books of the last several years, one that I go back to time and time again. Written by Clare Foster @clarefostergardens and beautifully photographed by Andrew Montgomery @montgomeryphoto it’s a book that celebrates a style of gardening and landscape management that’s so well suited to rural properties like our own here at Juniper Hill Farm. There are 20 gardens featured, all created by celebrated designers with a slant toward a wilder, natural, looser style of gardening that complements the surroundings in which they sit and are welcoming to both humans and wildlife in this new era of climate change. However, the designs illustrated here are not just limited to sprawling rural landscapes but are also applicable to small and urban gardens. Andrew Montgomery is one of my favorite garden photographers and the 480 pages of this book provide ample room for the display of over 250 of his beautiful color and black and white images.
