First To Flower
It’s been a proper spring day here today. The Snowdrift crabapple is in full flower and the sheep are enjoying grazing on new grass in the filed right next to the tree.
Malus ’Snowdrift’ is always the first of our crabapples to flower in the spring. It’s also the largest of any of our crabapples and to think I almost gave up on this tree. For several years it occupied a different spot in the garden where it languished until it was near death. In a last ditch effort to save it (I had little hope, to be honest) I moved it to its current spot and in just one or two years it jumped back to life and has flourished ever since. It was a good lesson in “right plant, right place.”
