The Old Manse
Below is a shot of the Old Manse in Concord, Massachusetts. When we lived in Concord we lived on the same street, just a sone’s throw from this venerable house, and I would often take walks there with my camera trying to photograph the house from different perspectives off the well-trodden tourist trail. I especially loved this shot where the house appears to be just peeking above the meadow.
The Old Manse, built in 1770, was the home of the congregational minister, William Emerson. William Emerson’s grandson, Ralph Waldo Emerson, also lived here for a time as did Nathaniel Hawthorne and his wife, Sophia. Henry David Thoreau planted the original gardens here and the house, located just adjacent to the historic Old North Bridge, stood as witness to the very beginnings of the American Revolution.
Photographed during the month of September.
