On the day after Thanksgiving, I'd rather avoid the black Friday madness and instead clear my head and stretch my legs with a walk in the woods. Thoreau knew what he was talking about when he said "we need the tonic of wildness." The little trail pictured above is one that I walk almost daily. It was once the old coach road that connected our small village with the neighboring one but now just circles through our woodland, and then back again to the house. A short little hike indeed, but one that allows me to observe all of the subtle daily changes that occur in nature as the seasons progress. As I walk this trail, I often ask myself why I bother to garden at all. Mother Nature does such a better job of it than I could ever do!
